In Third Grade With Mrs. Lahar...

The first few weeks of school have gone very well for the 3rd graders.

We have begun reviewing math skills and problem solving strategies. We just finished our first math portfolio problems. We will soon be working on our graphing skills. We will collect data, communicate this data through various graphs and practice interpreting graphs.  We are in the third year of using Growing with Mathematics.

In language arts, we will be reading various books.  Students are reading books independently and are conferencing on Accelerated Reader.  We have reviewed many reading strategies - visualizing, predicting, questioning and marking up the text.  These strategies will help students to comprehend the text more fully. We have written acrostic poems, and we will be working on a personal narrative.

In social studies, we will be studying geography. We will review continents, oceans and how to read a variety of maps. We will also be looking closely at maps of Vermont.

For science, we have begun a unit called The Solid Earth.  We are very excited to be using our new science books.

A few reminders –
