In Mrs. Stelter's class…

Happy Fall to One and All!

October and November are busy months in First Grade.  We start the month of October with Fire Safety Week.  A special thank you to our Charleston Firefighters for their super fire safety presentation!  We’re very fortunate to have such a dedicated group in our town.  Please remember to sit down with your family and make a home exit plan, as well as a designated meeting place in case the need arises.

We continue working on beginning reading skills and look forward to the start of reading groups soon.  Our collaboration with Kindergarten in Writers’ Workshop has been great!  The children are becoming very enthusiastic writers.

In Math we’re working on understanding addition and subtraction and measurement.

We’ll be working on mapping skills, rules and holidays (Columbus Day, Halloween, Veterans’ Day and Thanksgiving) for Social Studies.

In Science we continue our Animal unit with an emphasis on Spiders.  We’ve also been learning about animals that hibernate and nocturnal animals.

Parent Conferences will be coming up in November.  I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child’s progress in First Grade.

I hope you have a great Fall and enjoy the beauty of  the season!
