Welcome to the 2008-2009
Winter Illness Season!
This is the time to get your Flu Vaccine.
It is now also recommended that children age 6 months through 18 years get a flu shot.
How else can schools and families protect themselves from illnesses caused by viruses and bacteria?
Basic inexpensive hygiene practices are the most recommended practices everyone can use to protect themselves from germs.
- Wash your hands!! Soap and water, rubbing between the fingers and all over the hands to the song of happy birthday will give you the best results. Hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol will help until you can wash at a sink.
- Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with your hands.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with inside elbow area, or tissues and throw soiled tissues in trash.
- Disinfect hard surfaces touched often by dirty hands with 1 oz. bleach in one gallon of water or other solutions of your choice.
When are you or your children too sick to go to school or work?
- Accurate temperature greater than 100.4°. Temperature measuring tools and methods are not the same for every person or age. Check with your healthcare provider for their recommendations.
- Person should not have had vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours and be eating and drinking normally before returning to full activity.
- Coughing, fast or troubled breathing, productive with thick yellow-greenish “stuff” coming up which prevents restful sleep or participating in every day activities, should be evaluated by your healthcare provider.
- Oozing sores on face in nose or mouth stay home and call the doctor. Stay home 24 hours if on antibiotics before return to school.
- Red eyes – is the eye tearing with white or greenish – yellow discharge? Stay home and call the doctor. If on antibiotics stay home for 24 hours
Please call school when your child is home sick.
Best Wishes for good winter season of HEALTH!!
